  Configuring the CommunityTSC Agent

The CommunityTSC Agent can be configured to display either more or less information, from graphics to statistics. Network connection properties can be configured and the server handshake can be controlled manually. All of these topics are discussed below.

Properties

The Properties Window consists of two pages that allow you to adjust the settings of your (D2OL)™ client.

General Properties Page.

Here three program options are available. You may control how the application starts, how it is displayed, and how large a queue to use

Launch main window at startup will maximize the agent at login. Turn this off if you wish to only have the service run in the tray with no GUI.

(D2OL)™ is designed to be running at all times and utilize spare processing power of your computer to assist in research. For computers without advanced graphics capabilities, the animations can be turned off to maximize processing power.

If you frequently work offline, the candidate queue size can be increased significantly to allow the computer be to unattended for longer periods of time

2. Network Properties Page.

Most users will connect directly. If you are running (D2OL)™ from behind a firewall, however, please choose the appropriate proxy service (HTTP or SOCKS). Then specify the host and port necessary to communicate using the proxy.

For assistance connecting, please send an email to support@childhooddiseases.org with a description of your computer and network settings.

Status

The Status window controls how CommunityTSC communicates with the servers at The Rothberg Institute. Version 2.0 has much more detailed information in this completely new console.

Community TSC regularly performs a handshake with the servers at The Rothberg Institute. This validates an open connection in order to receive new Broadcast Messages and Headlines as well as performing and upload of completed results and a download of new tasks when necessary. All this happens on a regular basis approximately once every six hours for clients in an Online status. Broadcast Messages can also be "pushed" from the server to for important announcements at unscheduled times.

While all this happens in the background, CommunityTSC provides the ability to see the status of all these steps and manually control the connection outside of the scheduled handshake.

The Communications tab of the Status window displays the six separate tasks that occur when the agent communicates with TRI. Manual Update will process all tasks ahead of the next scheduled update. Flush All Tasks will reset the client (valuable if a result set fails to upload.)

The second tab, Statistics, displays a variety of metrics that are specific to the node. There are no configurable options here.

Advanced Detail

The CommunityTSC Agent has several areas displaying either statistics or processing information. This area provides detail on what information is presented. These displays can be turned on and off through the GUI. See Navigation, Area 5 for more detail

Candidate HUD

This area displays information regarding the current Candidate (see The Agent). If this display is not visible, press the HUD button (see The Agent). If you see the Conformer HUD instead, click on the "CANDIDATE IN PROCESS" area to select the Candidate for viewing.

The Left side displays the name of the current Candidate.
The Right side displays which conformer is currently processing

Conformer HUD

This area displays information regarding the selected Conformer (see The Agent). If this display is not visible, press the HUD button (see The Agent). If you see the Candidate HUD instead, click a Conformer for viewing. If the Conformer area is empty, please wait for Conformers to be processed. Conformers will begin to appear as processing completes.

The name of the selected Conformer.
The total generations calculated by the genetic algorithm (see FAQ).
The total energy evaluations.
Additional statistics about the final configuration of the Conformer.
The final docked energy (see FAQ).

Statistics

This area displays your Agent's statistics. If this display is not visible, press the STATS button (see The Agent).

1 The total number of Tasks your Agent has requested.
2 The number of tasks your Agent has available in queue. The agent will continue to download new tasks during a handshake with the server until the number of requested and downloaded tasks are the same.
3 The time when processing began on the current Task. If the time is "Pending…" a task is not currently running. It may take several minutes to begin processing a task when the Agent starts. The time will also be "Pending…" if you chose to suspend tasks (see Controlling Tasks).
4 Total of completed results waiting to be uploaded to TRI.
