(D2OL)
The Drug Design and Optimization Lab works
to discover drug candidates against TSC targets. By simply downloading
a non-intrusive software application, you can contribute the idle
time available on your computer to fight against Tuberous Sclerosis
Complex (TSC) even when not connected constantly to the Internet.
This technology unites the vast power of participating computers
with complex science to evaluate drug candidates capable of curing
Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC).
Simply stated, the (D2OL) software is
downloaded to your personal computer and given drug candidates
to evaluate. Once your computer receives tasks to execute, it
begins a candidate evaluation process similar to finding the right
key to fit into a lock. (D2OL) technology enables the process
of sending hundreds of thousands of possible key combinations
to all computing devices participating in the network and managing
the results generated and returned to the network once you connect
again to the internet. As a user, no intervention is required
and the software executes as long as it is turned on, even when
disconnected from the Internet. If interested, a very intriguing
graphic user interface is provided for you.
By applying our tested platform which uniquely
takes advantage of all available computing devices within its
community including personal computers, servers and eventually
devices like TiVo and the Xbox, we are applying massive,
cost-effective computing power to our discovery efforts. Using
this computing power, our skilled methodology to identify targets
(focusing on both drugability and the target's role in the disease)
and collaborating with experts in computational chemistry and
structure based drug design, the (D2OL) initiative is working
to realize a 10 fold speed increase and 1,000 fold improvement
in the accuracy of computer based drug discovery efforts.
Our Contribution
The Rothberg Institute process provides a major step forward in
reducing the inefficiency and significant time involved in TSC
drug discovery. The D2OL platform is being used to quickly and
efficiently assemble significant computing power, scientific knowledge
and key data required to accelerate necessary discovery critical
in our fight against TSC.
